In the article “Why do clowns creep us out” written by Frank T. McAndrew, published in The Conversation ( 2019-09-6) he explains why people think clowns can creep us out. 

The clown's history has changed these years, they begin by being humorous before turning frightening. McAndrew tries to explain to us what the secret behind clown creepiness is. He writes at the beginning of the article that children are the ones who are most afraid of clowns, even though some adults enjoy dressing up as clowns for kids' birthday celebrations. The psychologist mentions that he is not interested just to know why clowns creep us out but also wants to understand why clowns are disturbing. McAndrew claims that they use clown characters for satirical purposes and for making fun of a prominent person.
