I really want to get home asap. Not only did I have a long day with 5 classes but my 6th and last class are English. I get it, it's important and everything but like why is it so boring and LONG. The only thing that’s not as disturbing is that my teacher, Mr. Williams, is hella chill. He is the only reason I'm not sleeping during class. As he was telling us about the history of the English language, a thought came through my head. Why are we ACTUALLY learning English??

Well, the English language is spread all over the world. In addition to about 400 million native speakers, English is understood and/or spoken by 1-1.6 billion people. With over a quarter of the world speaking the language, there’s always someone to practice with, especially when you travel. I personally have traveled a lot, so trust me when I say that knowing English is crucial. Ordering a meal, English. Asking for directions, English. Visiting sightseeings, English. Don't matter which country you travel to English is the key, your trip will be much better only by knowing English. It increases your opportunities in an unknown country.  

English is taught in almost every country in the whole world. Knowing English is almost as important as knowing how to write, how to eat, or how to walk. Well, maybe not THAT  important but you get the point. You get SOOO many opportunities by knowing English.  

English is the language of science, aviation, business, communication, and tourism. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company within your home country or for finding work abroad. It’s also the language of international communication, the media, and the internet, so learning English is important for socializing and entertainment as well as work. Why do you think the most famous universities learn stuff in English. Because the students come from all over the world and speak a common language, ENGLISH. 

Many of the world’s top films, books, and music are published and produced in English. Believe me, before I knew English I watched all movies in Russian but now OMG, it is so so so much better. I mean common, you hear the character's original voices which are absolutely amazing. I don't understand everything, but while I'm watching I am also learning. Therefore, by learning English you will have access to a great wealth of entertainment and will be able to have a greater cultural understanding. If you speak English, you won't need to rely on translations and subtitles anymore to enjoy your favorite books, songs, films, and TV shows. Watching movies and television programs in the English language is also a great and fun way to learn it.

According to a report by Education First, English is the language of the internet. An estimated 565 million people use the internet every day, and an estimated 52 percent of the world’s most visited websites are displayed in the English language. Learning English is important as it gives you access to over half the content on the internet. Knowing how to read English will allow you access to BILLIONS of pages of information that may not be otherwise available!

My thoughts were disturbed by Mr. Williams telling us the class is dismissed. “ Remember to do your English homework”.  End of school. FINALLY. But while I was walking out of the classroom I realized that although learning English can be challenging and time-consuming, we can see that it's also very valuable to learn and can create MANY opportunities. From my own experience, I know it can be a little challenging sometimes but just try to listen and practice it, I promise you it will be worth it. So don't be lazy, get to that lecture or whatever you do to learn English. Because I promise you, at the end of the day, all the work you've done will only benefit you.
