Geology

Hi, i am wondering of fossils are about biology or geology.

I am writing that ”Biology is the study of everything that is, or was once, alive — whether it is a plant, animal or microorganism. Thus if it was not for chemistry we could not study fossils.” Based on the fact that geologists can determine the ages of rocks and fossils by analyzing the isotopes found in them.

Umm im pretty sure fossils have to fall under archaeology? Studying fossils as by themselves is achaeology (which uses methods from both chemistry and physics) but drawing conclusions and reasoning about historic life could count as biology. Systematics and evolution theory are two things you can study.

Nej, arkeologi sysslar inte med fossil. Det hör till paleontologi.

okay, thank you

the reason I asked is because i am writing essay about why chemistry is the building blocks of biology. Do you guys think this reasoning is relevant?

I dont think... fossils in this context is relevant. What your teacher porbably wants you to write about is the cell and its molecular mechanisms. If you read under "modern biology" (not sure what makes it modern but ok), theres a section about the cell and the chemistry of the cell.

(when i said "uses methods of..." i meant it uses physics and chemsitry to do the dating. Actually mainly physics.)
